Just getting back from vacation now and it's time to report on a couple incredible trips! A few months back we got the idea to start planning an adventure for the Jacobs men. After a little bit of research we decided on Chain O Lakes in Indiana.
I set out for Brian's house on Saturday morning. Below is a picture of my view as I approached Cincinnati and then a brief detour at Bass Pro. The truck was loaded down with 4 kayaks- a beautiful sight to see.
After meeting up in Ft Wayne, we continued for another hour to the park.
Chain O Lakes was our destination for a couple reasons. First, it's located only about an hour from Brian's house in Ft Wayne. Cody was joining us for his 1st camping experience so it seemed best to choose a place close to home. Second, the Chain O Lakes seemed ideal for kayak fishing. The park is made up of several lakes all fairly small in size. Nothing larger than a trolling motor is allowed on the lakes that are connected by canals making it interesting to move from lake to lake.
I had reserved our campsite online a week in advance. It was fantastic and suited us well...especially by providing shade in the hot weather! Since we were located near the edge of camp and closest to the forest we were invaded by raccoons! They were bold little guys and couldn't even wait until we went to bed before trying to creep into camp for some scraps. Sleeping in the hammock, I could hear them passing under me all night long on their way to find some left over s'mores.
The campground was fairly empty with only a few of us braving the high temperatures. Below is picture of our friend and fellow camper.
As always, we were on a mission to catch fish. We didn't catch many the first couple days, even though it appeared to be prime habitat for fish. However, on the last night we hit the jackpot. As the sun went down we were pulling large mouth in like crazy! Cody and I worked together in the Loon to pull in probably 8 fish that night...most of them pretty nice size! It was so fun to hook one and share the fight with Cody!...can't wait til Jackson can join us too!!!
The trip was definitely a success! It was great to be together! The weather cooperated and cooled off enough so we never got too hot. And, the fish were biting that last night! We had a great time and I'd say it's likely we'll do it again.
