Uncle Phil gave us an old Merrimack Canoe. The gunwales were all rotted out so we spent a few day restoring it and got it back out on the water this afternoon!
I have a similar merrimack canoe that I purchased yesterday from a girl who inherited it from her late grandfather, through a little research I was able to say that it is a merriMack 16' canoe and looks to be in similar shape as yours previous to your restoration. I have found that the company is no longer in business as of a couple years ago and I can't find much information on the proper way to go about restoring or repairing some simple things that are worn on my new indevor. I have about an inch of rot on the ribs all the way around and I was wanting to cut it out and replace the top edge to get rid of the rot, but I'm not sure if this is a good way to go or not. Is there a source for which you found the information that you used for your resto? If so, or if you could possibly point me in a direction, it would be appreciated. Thanks, Rory O'Neill
