New River

Our crew for the New River.  It turned into a 2 night trip, even though we scheduled for 3, because we misjudged our speed.  Water levels were a little low but lots of class I rapids where the smallmouth hung out.  We caught most our fish on the first and last day with the 2nd being slow...maybe because of all the rafters on the water.  Great trip!  Boris took home the trophy.

 

The best sections for fishing were Wagoner to 221 and Kings Creek to our take out @ 93.  Most of our luck was smallmouth on top water but nothing of size.  A few nice size trout were caught on Panther Martins. 

This was our intended trip.  We misjudged our speed and ended reaching our campsite @ 221 Access just after noon on Saturday.  So, we decided to paddle on and camp at River Camp.  Next time, I'd love to spend the night @ Aleghany.  It looked very remote and was in a section of the river for great fishing!
